Bilbao now has a new queer meeting point: Axel Hotel Bilbao has opened its doors, and we made sure it was a big, bold entrance. We came to celebrate freedom.
The grand opening, under the motto “We’ll turn you towards the river”, was a tribute to art and diversity — with performances in rooms, live shows, DJ sets, and video projections. On the rooftop, artist Cachorro Lozano presented “Polyhedral Dance”, an ephemeral art installation featuring four dancers around the pool.
The night was also a tribute to key figures in LGBTQIA+ visibility in the city: La Otxoa, Las Fellini, and Asier Etxeandía now give their names to three of our suites.
This tribute will soon reach all Axel Hotels. As Albert Olivé, CEO of Axel Hotels, said: “Our spaces are our flag, and this tribute is our way of thanking a community that made us feel part of it from day one.”
